8 important manners you should teach your little ones

We all want to raise our little ones to be polite and well behaved,
and learning those lessons starts at home.
It's never too early to teach your little ones basic manners!

Here are eight of the most important manners you should try to teach your little ones
before they go to school. They won't remember them all, or get them right every time,
but patience and perseverance should get you through:

1. Always say please and thank you. 

Whether they're activities as small as giving your little one a snack,
or them asking if they can play in the garden, always reinforce the
importance of saying please and thank you.
No matter how young your children are, you can't start enforcing this rule too early!

2. Table manners

When your tiny tots are just learning to eat at the table,
start teaching them the manners you'd like them to have for the
rest of their lives!
Rules like not eating with their mouths open, or not putting their
elbows on the table,are good life lessons for your children to learn as soon as possible.

3. Play dates

When you're little ones go on play dates, or to birthday parties, remind them to
thank their friends parents for having them over. If you aren't going to be
attending the play date or event with your little one, ensure your little ones know
they should treat their friends parents (and all grown-ups)
with the same respect they treat you.

4. Birthday party etiquette

It's often said that kids go wild at birthday parties - all the sweet snacks and fun
can make little ones get excited, and sometimes forget their manners.
But no matter how excited your little one is on their birthday, there are some manners
they shouldn't forget: to open their presents thoughtfully (not ripping off the paper,or tossing the present to one side as soon as they've seen it)
and to say thank you for every gift, and to every attendee.

5. Mind the language

There will come a moment every parent dreads: the moment your little one swears.
And then finds it funny! The worst thing you can do in this scenario is laugh.
Let them know that you already know that word, you think it's unpleasant, not funny,
and ask your little one not to use it again!

6. Don't be meanKids tease each other, and they find it funny. But this can sometimes go a step too far and lead to bullying.
Make sure your little ones don't call others mean names, and don't make fun of anyone for any reason. Ganging up on someone else is cruel, not clever.

7. Excuse me!Once your little ones have mastered saying please and thank you,
teach them to say excuse me. It's the polite thing to say when you have to
interrupt someone, or bump into somebody.

8. TMI!
There are some things that are too much information,
and that your little ones shouldn't talk about in public!
These include genitals, poo, nose picking, and all the other gory things
that amuse kids!

THE CLIFF HANGER

 

                   A man named Jack was walking along a steep cliff one day when he accidentally got too close to the edge and fell. On the way down he grabbed a branch, which temporarily stopped his fall. He looked down and, to his horror, saw that the canyon fell straight down for more than a thousand feet. He couldn't hang onto the branch forever, and there was no way for him to climb up the steep wall of the cliff.

 

So Jack began yelling for help, hoping that someone passing by would hear him and lower a rope or something. HELP! HELP! Is anyone up there? "HELP!" He yelled for a long time, but no one heard him. He was about to give up when he heard a voice.

 

"Jack, Jack. Can you hear me?"

 

"Yes, yes! I can hear you. I'm down here!"

 

"I can see you, Jack. Are you all right?"

 

"Yes, but who are you, and where are you?

 

"I am the Lord, Jack. I'm everywhere."

 

"The Lord? You mean, GOD?"

 

"That's Me."

 

"God, please help me! I promise if, you'll get me down from here, I'll stop sinning.  I'll be a really good person.  I'll serve You for the rest of my life."

 

Easy on the promises, Jack. Let's get you off from there; then we can talk." "Now, here's what I want you to do. Listen carefully."

 

"I'll do anything, Lord. Just tell me what to do."

 

"Okay. Let go of the branch."

 

"What?"

 

"I said, let go of the branch." Just trust Me.  Let go."

 

There was a long silence.  Finally Jack yelled, "HELP! HELP! IS ANYONE ELSE UP THERE?"

 

Have you ever felt like Jack? We say that we want to know the will of God, but when we find out what it is, we can't handle it.  Sounds too scary--too difficult. We decide to look elsewhere. When He says, "Let go of the things that stand between you and Me, and trust Me with your life," it sounds pretty scary.  But when we let go, we find freedom and safety in His hands."

A Woman's Gift

"Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her."

                                       The disciples were angry and confused. They watched as a woman poured very precious ointment on the head of Jesus. To them, this was extremely wasteful. They thought, "This ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor" (v. 9 NLT). Yet Jesus didn't seem upset. In fact, He had an entirely different perspective on what this woman had done.

In Jesus' sight, she had done "a good work" (v. 10). While the disciples seemed to be concerned with the poor, He reminded them that the poor would always be with them. In contrast, He would be with them for only a short time. In addition, her act was preparing His body for burial.

                  The actions of this woman proved to be the final straw for Judas. After hearing Jesus' remark, he went to the chief priests to betray Him. He had not understood the principles Jesus tried to teach. More interested in his own agenda and his own understanding, he was unwilling to place Jesus first.

                            For those who have ears to hear, this woman is still remembered. Her gift showed how much she loved Jesus. It was a gift that cost her something, and it was precious in His sight.

                  There are many things we can do with the money and resources we've been given. But ultimately, the most important things in our lives are the things we do for the Kingdom of God. For Jesus!

                             Today, you have an opportunity to demonstrate your love for Jesus with what you do with your time, talent, and treasure. What memorials are you leaving to reflect your love for Him? How will He remember you for what you do with your resources? 

                             Offer yourself wholeheartedly to Him, and seek first His Kingdom. Make your life a blessing!

TEN LITTLE CHRISTIANS

Ten little Christians standing in a line, One disliked the pastor, then there were nine. Nine little Christians stayed up very late, One slept in on Sunday, then there were eight.
Eight little Christians on their way to heaven, One took the low road, then there were seven. Seven little Christians chirping like chicks, One disliked the music, then there were six.

Six little Christians seemed very much alive, But one lost his interest, then there were five. Five little Christians pulling for Heaven's shore, But one stopped to rest, then there were four. Four little Christians, each busy as a bee, One got her feelings hurt, then there were three. Three little Christians knew what to do, One joined the sports crowd, then there were two.
Two little Christians, our rhyme is nearly done, Differed with each other, then there was one. One little Christian can't do much 'tis true; Brought his friend to Bible study, then there were two.
Two earnest Christians, each won one more, That doubled their number, then there were four. Four sincere Christians worked early and late, Each won another, then there were eight.
Eight little Christians, if they doubled as before, In just a few short weeks, we'd have 1,024. In this little jingle, there's a lesson true, You belong to the building, or the wrecking crew.

SHEPHERD AND SHEEP

                         "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." John 10:27 

             In his book about Israel and the Promised Land, Dr. Gary M. Burge tells the story of a ten-year-old shepherd, whose family had only 12 sheep. As part of a military action, their sheep had been gathered into a pen with other sheep from their village.
      The boy's mother begged the soldiers to let her have her original sheep back, but this did not seem possible. How could her 12 be identified among so many hundreds?
      Then her son began playing a simple tune on his flute. All of the sheep heard the sound. But as soon as the boy started to walk away, his family's 12 sheep (and only their 12 sheep) followed him. Dr. Burge concludes, "This boy was a good shepherd. He knew his sheep, and his sheep knew him."
      This story demonstrates the connection between a good shepherd and his sheep. This is exactly the connection Jesus described for His followers. He described Himself as "the good shepherd" (v. 11), a Shepherd so concerned about His sheep that He would give up His life for them.
      Jesus explained that He knows His sheep, and they know Him. He is their "door," providing the way to safety and salvation. All around them, "thieves and robbers" (v. 8) try to deceive the sheep. They come "only to steal and kill and destroy," but Jesus "came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (v. 10).
      This is the kind of relationship Jesus wants to have with each of us. He already gave His life for us. Now we must choose: We can follow the "thieves and robbers" in the world, wandering in our own direction, or we can surrender to the care of the Good Shepherd.
      Today, seek to develop a more intimate relationship with Jesus. You can trust Him to provide for you, protect you, and guide you. He is your Shepherd.

THE SEED

THE Seed

A successful business man was growing old and
knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children,
he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you.

"The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED.

I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you.

I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO."

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed.

Every day, he would water it and watch to see if it had
grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.
Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing.
By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure.

Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however... He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.
Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot.
But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right.

He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes.

Jim put his empty pot on the floor and
many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!"

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front.

Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a
failure! Maybe he will have me fired!"

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive Officer! His name is Jim!"

Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed.

"How could he be the new CEO?" the others said.

Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow.

All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you.

Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!"

THE CROSS

DEAR ALL,

The Cross

A young man was at the end of his road , seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer.

"Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear."

The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room.

Then, open that other door and pick out any cross you wish."

The man was filled with relief and said, "Thank you Lord," and he did as he was told.

Upon entering the other room, he saw many crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall.

"I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered.

The Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in."

When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.

ALL HE HAD TO OFFER

Here is a story, about a nine year old boy who lived in a rural town in
Tennessee. His house was in a poor area of the community. A church there
had a bus ministry that came knocking on his door one Saturday afternoon.

The child came to answer the door and greeted the bus pastor.

The bus pastor asked if his parents were home and the small boy told him
that his parents take off every weekend and leave him at home to take care
of his little brother. The bus pastor couldn't believe what the child said
and asked him to repeat it. The youngster gave the same answer and the bus
pastor asked to come in and talk with him. They went into the living room
and sat down on an old couch with the foam and springs exposed. The bus
pastor asked the child, "Where do you go to church?"

The young boy surprised the visitor by replying, "I've never been to church
in my whole life." The bus pastor thought to himself about the fact that
his church was less than three miles from the child's house.

"Are you sure you have never been to church?" he asked again.

"I'm sure I haven't," came his answer.

Then the bus pastor said, "Well, son, more important than going to church,
have you ever heard the greatest love story ever told?" and then he
proceeded to share the Gospel with this little nine year old boy.

The young lad's heart began to be tenderized and at the end of the bus
pastor's story, the bus pastor asked if the boy wanted to receive this free
gift from God. The youngster exclaimed, "OF COURSE!"

The child and the bus pastor got on their knees and the lad invited Jesus
into his little heart and received the free gift of salvation. They both
stood up and the bus pastor asked if he could pick the child up for church
the next morning.

"Sure," the nine year old replied.

The bus pastor got to the house early the next morning and found the lights
off. He let himself in and snaked his way through the house and found the
little boy asleep in his bed. He woke up the little boy and his brother and
helped get them dressed. They got on the bus and ate a doughnut for
breakfast on their way to church.

Keep in mind that this boy had never been to church before.

The church was a real big one. The little child just sat there, clueless of
what was going on. A few minutes into the service, these tall unhappy guys
walked down to the front and picked up some wooden plates. One of the men
prayed and the child, with utter fascination, watched them walk up and down
the aisles. He still didn't know what was going on. Suddenly, like a bolt
of lightning, it hit the child what was taking place.

These people must be giving money to Jesus. He then reflected on the free
gift of life he had received just twenty-four hours earlier. He immediately
searched his pockets, front and back, and couldn't find a thing to give
Jesus.

By this time the offering plate was being passed down his aisle and, with a
broken heart, he just grabbed the plate and held on to it. He finally let
go and watched it pass on down the aisle. He turned around to see it passed
down the aisle behind him.

And then his eyes remained glued on the plate as it was passed back and
forth, back and forth all the way to the rear of the sanctuary.

Then he had an idea. This little nine year old boy, in front of God and
everybody, got up out of his seat. He walked about eight rows back, grabbed
the usher by the coat and asked to hold the plate one more time. Then he
did the most astounding thing I have ever heard of. He took the plate, sat
it on the carpeted church floor and stepped into the center of it.

As he stood there, he lifted his little head up and said, "Jesus, I don't
have anything to give you today, but just me. I give you me!"
