PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE AND
PROTECTION TO THOSE I LOVE
O heavenly Father, our protector and guide, You are the greatest Friend andjoy we have! To be able to come to You in prayer like this is the mostbeautiful part of our lives!
It is not for myself that I want to pray today, dear Father, but for thosewho are near and dear to me and about whom I worrying. You know what theyare facing, dear Father. And You know most of all the deepest reasons whythese things have come upon them!
And You know how I want to help. Truly I think it would be easier if I couldonly face what they are facing. But You know how helpless we are to helpanother even though we know what is just and right.
Only You are left, dear Father. Do be with them in all things at all times.Protect them from enemies and evil, my Father. Forgive them their sins andput love of others in their hearts.
O do make them happy in their lives at home, dear Father, and help them liveas You wouldst have them live. Above all, put love in their hearts for You.
And thank You, my Father, for Your goodness to them and to me. Thank You forYour love and guidance and protection! May we honor you all the days of ourlives. And be happy and uplifted even as I feel right now!
Amen.

PUPPY SIZE

PUPPY SIZE
"Danielle keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to thisanimal shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since we startedall of this," the mother told the volunteer.
"What is it she keeps asking for?" the volunteer asked.
"Puppy size!" replied the mother.
"Well, we have plenty of puppies, if that's what she's looking for."
"I know...we have seen most of them," the Mom said in frustration...
Just then Danielle came walking into the office.
"Well, did you find one?" asked her Mom. "No, not this time,"
Danielle said with sadness in her voice. "Can we come back on the weekend?"
"You never know when we will get more dogs. Unfortunately, there's always asupply," the volunteer said.
Danielle took her mother by the hand and headed to the door. "Don't worry,I'll find one this weekend," she said.
Over the next few days, both Mom and Dad had long conversations with her. They both felt she was being too particular.
"It's this weekend or we're not looking any more," Dad finally said infrustration.
"We don't want to hear anything more about puppy size either," Mom added.
Sure enough, they were the first ones in the shelter on Saturday morning. Bynow Danielle knew her way around, so she ran right for the section thathoused the smaller dogs. Tired of the routine, Mom sat in the small waitingroom at the end of the first row of cages.
There was an observation window so you could see the animals during timeswhen visitors weren't permitted. Danielle walked slowly from cage to cage, kneeling periodically to take a closer look. One by one the dogs werebrought out and she held each one. One by one she said, "Sorry, you're notthe one."
It was the last cage on this last day in search of the perfect pup. Thevolunteer opened the cage door and the child carefully picked up the dog andheld it closely. This time she took a little longer.
"Mom, that's it! I found the right puppy! He's the one! I know it!" shescreamed with joy. "It's the puppy size!"
"But it's the same size as all the other puppies you held over the last fewweeks," Mom said.
"No not size ---- the sighs. When I held him in my arms, he sighed," shesaid.
"Don't you remember? When I asked you one day what love is, you told me lovedepends on the sighs of your heart. The more you love, the bigger the sigh!"
The two women looked at each other for a moment. Mom didn't know whether tolaugh or cry. As she stooped down to hug the child, she did a little ofboth.
"Mom, every time you hold me, I sigh. When you and Daddy come home from workand hug each other, you both sigh. I knew I would find the right puppy if itsighed when I held it in my arms," she said. Then holding the puppy up closeto her face she said, "Mom, he loves me. I heard the sighs of his heart!"
Close your eyes for a moment and think about the love that makes you sigh. Inot only find it in the arms of my loved ones, but in the caress of asunset, the kiss of the moonlight and the gentle brush of cool air on a hotday. They are the sighs of God. Take the time to stop and listen; you willbe surprised at what you hear. "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.

SEARCHING FOR A VESSEL

SEARCHING FOR A VESSEL
The Master was searching for a vessel to use;On the shelf there were many - which one would He choose?Take me, cried the gold one, I'm shiny and bright,I'm of great value and I do things just right. My beauty and lustre will outshine the restAnd for someone like You, Master, gold would be the best!
The Master passed on with no word at all;He looked at a silver urn, narrow and tall;I'll serve You, dear Master, I'll pour out Your wineAnd I'll be at Your table whenever You dine,My lines are so graceful, my carvings so true,And my silver will always compliment You.
Unheeding the Master passed on to the brass,It was widemouthed and shallow, and polished like glass. Here! Here! cried the vessel, I know I will do,Place me on Your table for all men to view.
Look at me, called the goblet of crystal so clear,My transparency shows my contents so dear,Though fragile am I, I will serve You with pride,And I'm sure I'll be happy in Your house to abide. The Master came next to a vessel of wood,Polished and carved, it solidly stood. You may use me, dear Master, the wooden bowl said,But I'd rather You used me for fruit, not for bread!
Then the Master looked down and saw a vessel of clay.Empty and broken it helplessly lay.No hope had the vessel that the Master might choose,To cleanse and make whole, to fill and to use.
Ah! This is the vessel I've been hoping to find,I will mend and use it and make it all Mine.I need not the vessel with pride of its self;Nor the one who is narrow to sit on the shelf;Nor the one who is bigmouthed and shallow and loud;Nor one who displays his contents so proud; Not the one who thinks he can do all things just right; But this plain earthy vessel filled with My power and might.
Then gently He lifted the vessel of clay.Mended and cleansed it and filled it that day.Spoke to it kindly. There's work you must do,Just pour out to others as I pour into you.

SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD

SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD
A group of students studied the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. At theend of that section, the students were asked to list what they considered tobe the Seven: 1. Suez Canal
2. Dneproges Dam on the Dnepr River (USSR)
3. Atomic Energy Research Establishment Harwell, England
4. Alaska (ALCAN) Highway
5. Golden Gate Bridge
6. Eiffel Tower
7. Empire State Building
While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was havingtrouble with her list.
The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind becausethere were so many!"
The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."
The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:
1. to touch
2. to taste,
3. to see
4. to hear."
She hesitated a little, "and then
5. to run 6. to laugh, and7. to love."
It is far too easy for us to look at the exploits of man and refer to themas "wonders" while we overlook all God has done, regarding them as merely"ordinary." May you be reminded today of those things which are trulywondrous.
NOTE: In case you were curious, here are the "SEVEN WONDERS LISTS"

SIDE BY SIDE

SIDE BY SIDE
They lie on the table side by side,The Holy Bible and the TV guide.
One is well worn and cherished with pride,Not the Bible . . . but the TV guide.
One is used daily to help folks decide,No, not the Bible . . . but the TV guide.
As the pages are turned, what shall they see,Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV.
Then confusion reigns, they can't all agree,On what they should watch on the old TV.
So they open the book in which they confide,No, not the Bible . . . but the TV guide.
The Word of God is seldom read,Maybe a verse as they fall into bed.
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,Not from reading the Bible . . . from watching TV.
So then back to the table side by side,Lie the Holy Bible and the TV guide.
No time for prayer, no time for the Word,The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.
But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,Is found in the Bible . . . not on TV.

SPEAK GENTLY

SPEAK GENTLY

Speak gently. It is better by farto rule by love than fear.Speak gently. Let no harsh word marthe good you may do here.
Speak gently to the young, for theywill have enough to bear;pass through this life as best they may,'tis full of anxious care.
Speak gently to the aged oneGrieve not the care-worn heart, whose sand of life are nearly run,let such in peace depart.
Speak gently, kindly to the poor, let no harsh tone be heard. They have enough they must endurewithout an unkind word.
Speak gently...'tis a little thingdropped in the heart's deep well; The good, the joy that it may bringeternity shall tell.
